Daily Chinese Language, Literature and History lessons are required for all students. It is not just the Chinese language skills, we want you to appreciate the Chinese Literature and understand the Chinese history.
Kindergarten – Grade 2
In kindergarten through grade 2, students receive language arts/reading, math, science, social studies and health instruction half day in Mandarin Chinese.
Grades 3 – 4
English language arts is introduced for the equivalent of three hours per day in grades 3-4.
Grades 5 – 6
There is an even distribution of Chinese and English in grades 5-6. In grade 5, students have Chinese language arts, science and half of their math instruction in Chinese, and English language arts, social studies, health and the other half of their math instruction in English. In grade 6, students have Chinese language arts, science and social studies in Chinese, and English language arts, math and health in English.
All Grades
In all grades, music, art and physical education are delivered in English, but we infuse Chinese cultural components into these classes whenever possible. Elite Prep follows the New Jersey Dept of Education Core curriculum standards for all content areas, with instructional materials in Chinese for the Chinese components of the curriculum. Students are grouped according to their previous experience in the language. All students are required to take Chinese Literature (Gu Wen) and Chinese history class, consisting of a two-hour session of Chinese elocution, reading, and writing.
